Screen-Printed Nameplates for Exceptional Color, Readability and Lifespan

July 23, 2025

The screen-printing process can produce very fine details and sharp lines, making it ideal for intricate designs and small text.  As nameplates are vehicles for critical information, this process is frequently used for customers looking for precision that lasts.

Willington Nameplate prints thousands of screen-printed nameplates for customers in the aerospace, defense, and automotive industries due to the exceptional results: clear readability, high quality, and durability. In fact, 25% of our business is screen-printing nameplates, and there’s been a 27% increase in demand for this reliable solution.

It all starts with the screen.  In the photo on the left, John is building a screen and calibrating the tension to ensure a clear image. Each screen has a mesh count, which refers to the number of horizontal and vertical threads per square inch. The more detailed the design, the finer the mesh, allowing less ink to flow through the screen for more intricate images.

Next, the screen is immersed in a light-sensitive emulsion. Then the artwork is digitally sent to a laser, which exposes the design, and the images appear. The screens then move on to the surface print department.

Our expert surface printers use a squeegee-type printing process to apply ink to the chosen substrate, as Kris is doing in the center photo.

Screen-printed nameplates boast extreme durability and high-quality images due to the inks that are used. They can withstand harsh weather conditions, making them perfect for outdoor use and various industrial environments. Industry-standard colors such as Pantone® and Federal Standard are available. Additional finishes can be applied to increase the lifespan of the nameplate.

Screen printing can be done on a wide range of surfaces, including aluminum, stainless steel, brass, and polycarbonates. In the photo on the right, images were screen-printed on a thin, foil-like material.
