Pre-Press Operator

Reports to: Department Lead

Summary: Working with a team, you’ll enable communication with a variety of different customers, by creating identification products, both nameplates and labels. You will interact directly with internal and external customers on a regular basis. This position reads and interprets blueprints in order to product a proof for customer review.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications
  • Prepares proofs for customer review using Adobe Illustrator
  • Proofreading comp sheets
  • Create artwork files and prepare them for each manufacturing process
  • Proofing film outputs
  • Help maintain department equipment

Level 1 Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Communicates effectively both written and verbally
  • Basic understanding of how to read and interpret blueprints
  • Basic proofreading skills
  • Beginner knowledge of the screen printing process and film
  • Basic experience with MAC and PC platforms
  • Ability to assist in the maintenance of department equipment

Level 2 Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. (Includes all qualifications from previous level)

  • Ability to program barcoding
  • Advanced blueprint reading
  • Advanced proof reading skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot supplied art
  • Prepares step up production files for Datron and Strippit equipment
  • Ability to operate and maintain department equipment
  • Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Bartender, Suitcase, Wasatch SoftRIP and Onyx
  • Intermediate knowledge of company printing processes
  • Intermediate knowledge of production layouts, trapping, bleed, scrap, etc. (Datron, Strippit and Laser)
  • Ability to manage fonts

Level 3 Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. (Includes all qualifications from previous level)

  • Proficient with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Bartender, Suitcase, Wasatch SoftRIP, Onyx, Bezarc and Laserlink
  • Advanced knowledge of all company printing processes
  • Advanced knowledge of production layouts, trapping, bleed, scrap, etc. (Datron, Strippit and Laser)
  • Advanced knowledge of department equipment
  • Ability to teach all printing processes and programming

Education/Experience:

  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Communicates effectively both written and verbally
  • Basic understanding of how to read and interpret blueprints
  • Solid understanding of MAC OS
  • Associates Degree or equivalent from a two year college or technical school preferred
